Jerry Slusky is a highly experienced attorney and commercial real estate developer. He currently serves as “Of Counsel” at Smith, Pauley, Slusky & Rogers, L.L.P. in Omaha, Nebraska. Throughout his impressive 50-year legal career, Jerry has dedicated himself to providing exceptional service to local and regional clients in various areas including real estate, corporate and business matters.
Jerry’s expertise lies in real estate planning, zoning, development, financing, taxation, and leasing. His extensive knowledge in these areas has made him a sought-after professional in the industry. From 1990 to 1996, he shared his expertise as an adjunct professor of law at Creighton University School of Law, teaching a course on real estate planning, development, financing, and taxation. Jerry has recently been teaching a shorter real estate and development class to the Real Estate and Land Use students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
In addition to his legal career, Jerry has been actively involved in commercial real estate acquisition and development projects across Nebraska and Iowa for over three decades, and recently in Arizona. In 2015, after accumulating 500 apartment units in Nebraska and Iowa, he and his partner exchanged those apartment units for a substantial interest in the Dakota Real Estate Investment Trust. At that time, Jerry was elected to the Board of Trustees of Dakota REIT and in 2018, he was appointed to the REIT’s Acquisition and Advisory Committees. Since 2012, Jerry and his partner have developed over 1,300 new construction apartments and townhome units in Iowa and Nebraska.
Jerry’s outstanding contributions have earned him numerous accolades and recognitions. He was inducted as a Fellow into the esteemed American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL) in 2003, joining a small, select group of Nebraskans who have received this honor. His expertise has been acknowledged by Chambers & Partners’ prestigious publication, “America’s Leading Business Lawyers Guide,” particularly in the areas of real estate, zoning, municipal law and finance, tax appeals, and tax-deferred transactions. Since 2003 Jerry has been consistently voted among the best lawyers in the United States by Best Lawyers in America. Omaha Magazine recognized him as One of Omaha’s Best Real Estate Attorneys.
Jerry’s passions extend beyond his legal practice and real estate interests. He actively participates on various boards, including serving as past President and Chairman of the Jewish Federation of Omaha, being a member of the Angels Among Us Advisory Board (children’s cancer charity) and an active supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Omaha. He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Commercial Real Estate Summit, an annual conference event that brings together professionals from the commercial real estate industry in the Midwest. The Summit, now approaching its 34th consecutive year, attracts over 900 attendees from all over the Midwest.
Jerry holds an L.L.M. (Taxation) degree from New York University School of Law, a Juris Doctor degree with honors from Creighton University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
